Introduction to

The Mager Family

The Mager family descends from two brothers, Menachem Nuchem and Mehiel Yehiel (Max), who lived in Skalat/Husiatyn, Austria. Max immigrated to the US; it is believed that Menachem did not. We do not know whether the brothers had additional siblings.

Menachem and his wife Nicha Frischlander had 3 daughters - Pearl, Bertha and Lena. Pearl married Moses Siegel. Bertha married Max Willner, and Lena married Morris Scheiner. Family lore has it that there were 2 brothers, Jochanan and another, who were refused entry in the US and ended up in Argentina.

Max arrived in the USA aboard the Anchoria, from Glasgow, on June 13, 1904. He is listed as being 39 years old. His wife wife Chaje Neugeboren arrived at Ellis Island on October 11, 1909, aboard the Rotterdam, with sons Pinchas (Philip), Jochne (Julius) and Kalman (Carl).

We do not know where Max is buried. Family lore has it that Menachem died very young, in Europe.

We believe that there is a part of the family in Israel, although we have been unable to find them. Doris Bailin, of blessed memory, had a cousin in Israel and Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the early 1980's; we are also unable to locate him.
